Merry Christmas!

Hope all of you had a very merry Christmas surrounded by loved ones. Our Christmas was wonderful!! My parents bought me this little gem, a fitbit one. I can't wait to set it up today an start using it!! The only thing I asked Jim for was hand weights and a new pair of headphones that go over my ears. He got me exactly what I wanted and even a new Keurig. Woot woot!

I also can't wait to get back to the gym. I only got there twice last week and probably the same this week, but that's ok.

I'm afraid to step on the scale!

Not gonna hold me back

I didn't get my morning workout in since I had to take the truck in. So after Jim got home from work we had dinner then I headed to the gym. The weather was nasty but I knew I had to go.

I did the elliptical again and chose the weight loss program. It was only a 30 min workout and seemed easier than when i did it on monday manually. So after it was done I did another 30 min with more resistance. I ended up burning 614 calories and it felt good.

Sweaty

Last week I accomplished my weekly goal, I got three workouts in! Felt good too! Just wished my scale showed my efforts, got on and saw 233 lbs. :/

Today I started the week off with a nice workout. I was looking forward to it for several reasons. The first was that I was feelin guilty for what I consumed this weekend. We traveled to Seattle to visit Jim's uncle who's recovering from a brain tumor removal surgery. We had fast food sat afternoon and then delicious Mexican food with an even better margarita! There was a 5 hour drive plus lots of sitting in the hospital. Sunday was a little better but not much.

My other reason was for the tv so I could hear more about the CT shooting on Friday. We have very basic cable so we don't get good news channels. It breaks my heart to watch and hear about it but I can't stop.

I did the elliptical machine again, I think it was the same as the first one. I chose to avoid the last one I did because on top of being confusing it also made my right foot fall asleep. I was able to get in an hour workout, burned 700 calories and almost got 5 miles in! The child watch gal came and got me during my cool down because of another dirty diaper but I was ready to be done.

I really worked up a sweat and loved it. Tried to get a pic but it was hard. :). I liked it most when I had a small incline but a 10 or 11 on the resistance.

I have PT on Wed but plan to hit the gym before it. (This is more for accountability).

New machine

I tried out a new machine yesterday and am not so sure I like it. My legs are extremely sore today!!

I heard of the tragic CT news while at PT and was horrified! I had plans to get to the gym once I got home before the child watch closed. I went as planned but my heart wasn't in it. I watched the snow fall, the news and the president speak and just couldn't believe how someone could do this! Then I felt guilty for having my babies downstairs while I was working out. Just as I was about to get off to go get them and hug them one of the workers came and got me because Ryan needed a diaper change, I was relieved.

I ended up getting a good little workout and burned of some stress. My legs were shaky after I got off and i was a sweaty mess. My legs are paying for it today too, wow!

Short workout

I havent been able to get to the gym since sunday because of Zacks short school days, PT and a lunch date. I did make it today but Zack had his first parent teacher conference today so I had to cut my workout short.

I ended up trying out the elliptical instead of the treadmill. I did 30 min and varied my resistance and incline. I believe I did 2.5 miles (maybe more) and burned 300 calories.  I tried to take a picture but my phone wouldn't let me so I lost all the info, stupid phone!  I worked up quite the sweat!  I definitely felt more of a workout today which was awesome!

I then went to the arm machine that I did on Sunday.  I did 3 sets of 10 again and this time my arms were all shaky afterwards.  Ryan got to go in the big kid room today and he loved it!

I was trying to capture how red my face was but it didn't work
I've talked with my therapist about my workouts quite a bit lately. She's extremely proud of me for rejoining the gym.  I tend to get overwhelmed if things do go how I hoped or anticipated, for example if I don't get a workout in and then I tend to have lots of negative talk in my head.  She recommended having more and/or small rewards for when I do accomplish what I want/have planned to do.  I remember last year (6/2011) I rewarded myself when I hit my 5% goal with new shoes.  I am going to keep my weight loss goals the same but also going to add fitness goals, ones that are attainable, visual and don't have to cost any money.  Mollie said the goal isn't the big issue, the bigger issue is the REWARD and to be flexible.  So I'm going to start off with this:

Fitness goal: workout 3 times a week
Reward: highlighting my workout days on the calendar where it's visible

I tend to be hard on myself, don't we all?!  So if I don't get in three workouts a week then it's OK!  If I don't lose any weight then, it's OK.  I think that's what my biggest problem was the past 6 months.  I haven't seen changes, I let life get in the way and didn't make ME a priority and pushed workouts to the side because I haven't seen changes and felt like I let myself down.  So here we go on a new adventure.

Sunday morning workout

Jim is watching the Seahawks game with his uncles right now so I told him that I was for sure going to the gym in the morning for a workout.  They dropped me off and while I was sweating it out they went Christmas shopping.  Perfect!

I had never seen the parking lot so bare!  It was pretty slow inside which was nice too.  On Friday I tried a treadmill that had a tv hoping to watch it.  Well, I couldn't get the freaking thing to work so I listened to Pandora instead which was ok.  So today I decided to just skip the TV and go back to a plain machine.  The only bummer was that the heart rate monitor on it didn't work and I kind of like to see that to make sure I'm keeping my heart rate up.  Oh well, you win some and you lose some.  :)

I did the same weight loss program as the last two times.  I really like it.  This time on the 0 incline I stepped the speed up to 4.0 but couldn't do that on the 4 inclines so I turned it down.  In the end I think I averaged 3.6.  On the 0 and some 1 or 2 inclines I decided to try crouching down while walking kinda link lunging.  I would do it for a minute at a time.  Holy sweatfest!!!  I love the feeling that it gave me though.

Here were my overall stats:

My arms need some SERIOUS work!  So after the treadmill I tried an arm machine.  I haven't had any training on them so I kinda watched some of the other ladies that were using them before I tried it.  I just did the one machine today because I didn't want to over do it.  I did 3 sets of 10 at 40 lbs.  It felt good!

I also weighed myself this morning and was at 230.4lbs, that's a loss from last week!

See the arms...they need work!

Workout and a loss

I seriously love morning workouts and I'm not dreading the treadmill like I used to.  Maybe because these are fancier and have more options?  I don't know.  But I loved that I started the day out burning 536 calories!

Today is the hubs' birthday, unfortunately he has to work but gets to go out with his cousin tonight.  He will be home tomorrow morning and we're all looking forward to it.  He'll be home for the rest of the month so I don't feel obligated to spend every waking hour with him.  I still plan to get my workouts in.

I stepped on the scale this morning and it showed a loss, it wasn't much but it was a loss!  I don't know if it's the workouts or because shark week is over.  No matter what the reason, I'll take it!

Have a good weekend!

Back to it

My back is feeling about 90% better. Physical therapy has been great and I've also learned stretches and pressure points for my migraines.

I got a good workout in today.  My PT said no Zumba til my back is stronger but says I can do the treadmill.  He said to listen to my body but probably about 15 min or so.  Ha!  I have been feeling better and doing my exercises when I remember.  I got on the treadmill and was just going to do a half hour at about 3.4 and be done.  I cranked up my favorite Pandora station and away I went.

I started at 3.4 speed but then saw the Weight Loss Program button and decided to try it out.  I continued at my 3.4 speed as the incline went up from 0 to 3.  I actually preferred the inclines more.  I did the entire program which ended up being and hour, 3.32 miles and burned 434 calories.  I was a sweaty mess and tried to capture it in a picture but that didn't work out so well.  It felt good and am actually looking forward to another treadmill workout!  (what, did I just say that?!)

About 20 min before I finished one of the child watch workers came up and told me that Ryan got bit on the arm but was fine and wasn't even crying.  I started to get off and she assured me that I could stay so I finished my workout and rushed down.  He had red marks on top of his wrist but he was unphased by it all.  I still felt bad for the poor guy!

Jingle Bell 5k

I got to spend the morning with my very good friend, Lyndsey on her birthday!  If you remember, last year I ran my first 5k and it was the Jingle Bell Run. Last year's weather was horrible but his year it was beautiful!  It was pouring rain when I woke up and Lyndsey and I thought about skipping it but decided against it.  So glad we did!  There were a ton of people there again and I loved seeing all the costumes.  We went for antlers this year but are thinking about adding tutus next year?!

My back was sore but it didn't bother me too much.  We finished in 50 min and even saw a marriage proposal at the end.  I'd call it a good day!

I wore my raincoat in case of rain.  By the end it and my shirt were soaked and I wished I hadn't worn it.
Waiting to go, lots of people!
Santa and Mrs. Claus were even there!

Turned out to be a beautiful day!

Finished...with sunshine!

So sweet...she said YES!
And the shirt...

Zumba fail

My back was sore this morning but I thought it would loosen during Z.umba.  That DID NOT happen.  In fact, it was the opposite.  I only made it half way through before I was in so much pain and couldn't stand straight.  I decided to leave in fear of messing my back up worse.  I wasn't going to be defeated so I went upstairs and did 25 min on the treadmill.  The treadmill was somewhat ok.  There would be times that I'd just be walking and it would freeze up and hurt but I could keep on walking.  I did a 3.0 pace and 1.25 miles.  I hated not being able to finish Z.umba but it felt good to walk it out.

I am going to the Physical Therapist this afternoon and I can't wait!  I can not walk standing straight which I know is not good.  :(

Rough start

My day started pretty rough but ended up turning around.

I was feeling pretty good when I got dressed because I got two new workout tank tops at old navy this weekend for $5 each. Score!  But it quickly turned crazy. I had a banana for breakfast, got the boys ready to go then decided to make an advocare shake before leaving since I knew I'd be working out. The cup somehow got stuck on my blender thing and I panicked. I got it unstuck and zack was just a few min late to school, oops!

I've never really had a racer back tank top so I kinda felt naked.  But the shirts are super comfy.

I went straight to the Y and panicked again because I couldn't find our cards.  I was told is have to buy new cards since I misplaced mine. I paid the fee and just as we were going to get our picture taken i remembered where I put them. Thankfully I got my money back and dropped Ryan off and made it to class on time. Ryan actually did pretty well at drop off which was great! I met my friends Taryn and Jolene there and we had a great time. An old friend was there too and that was awkward but that's ok. I still stood across from her and shook it the best I could with my damn back and neck. It was a good workout and I was sweaty afterwards!

Because I had my ultrasound last week I had to reschedule my hair cut to today.  She told me her opening time and I agreed without thinking.  So this morning I rushed to pick Ryan up from childcare and get to the complete opposite side of town in 45 min.  I made it but felt so rushed.  Thankfully Zack was able to go to his friend's house after school so I didn't have to worry about him.

The rest of the day was smooth sailing.  I was able to go to Trader Joe's after my cut.  Ryan was so stinking cute pushing the little cart around.  We made a few more stops before heading home.

Have I mentioned how good I feel when I work out?  I just wish my darn back and neck wouldn't hurt so much.  I can avoid certain moves to keep the pain away which is ok for now.  I've noticed that if I sit for long periods of time I am in a lot of pain when I get up. Not normal for a 32 year old woman!!!!  I am scheduled to start physical therapy on Thursday so I'm hoping that helps.

My plan is to get to the gym 3-4 times a week.  I can do Zumba MWF or an evening class.  I'd also like to start on the machines whether it be the treadmill (yuck), elliptical and/or and arms machine or weights.  My arms are horrible!!!

Morning workout and urgent care

Despite a rough night with little sleep due to my back and neck and a rough morning, I made it to the Y for Zu.mba. I had sent my friend, Jolene a message before class saying I wasn't sure if I'd last with my back and might have to walk on the treadmill. Well, I powered through it and lasted the whole class! My back and neck hurt but I didn't push it. I really liked the class and the instructor but felt awkward because I didn't know the routines. But it was good and boy was I sweaty!! I really like working out in the morning vs the evening.

I had to cancel lunch with a friend and spent two hours in urgent care. I got a shot in the butt/hip of Toradol to get rid in the migraine but so far it hasn't helped. The doc prescribed a muscle relaxer for my back and neck. He also said to not go to the chiropractor anymore and gave me a referral for physical and/or massage therapy. Have I mentioned that I feel like an 80 year old woman?

But I loved our morning workout and look forward to many more!

We rejoined

Yesterday I went to on of our Zu.mba instructors class at another place.  It was in a small room with about 15 women.  The wall we faced was covered in mirrors.  Let me tell you how much I HATE mirrors when working out!  I know I'm not coordinated but those mirrors are a constant reminder.  I try to look at someone else but then feel bad, I try looking elsewhere but I can't help but see myself.  Ick!

Today I went to probably my last class at Eastpointe.  I hate to leave because I love the class and the people but with winter coming I don't want to drive a half hour each way for class.

No don't worry (I'm sure you weren't) I won't be quitting Zu.mba or working out together.  The fact is, I rejoined the Y today!!  I am so excited!  A friend and I went and checked it out this morning.  The reason I cancelled my membership was because Ryan wasn't digging the child watch.  Well, we tried it out again today and he lasted more than 45 minutes.  He cried when I first dropped him off but they said soon after I left he was fine.  I'm going to do the morning class with another friend tomorrow and am looking forward to it.  One of these times I might even attempt to sit in the hot tub, by.myself!!!  Heck, with two free hours of child care each day I might just sit in the lobby and do nothing!!!  I have plans to meet a friend at 9:30 tomorrow morning for class.

I'm feeling a little OLD this evening.  My lower back started hurting around 3pm this afternoon.  It is stiff and Zumba was rough at times this evening at times it hurt so bad it took my breath away.  I'm not sure what I did and can't think of anything that would've tweaked it.  But I feel like an 80 year old person, it hurts bad.  I've been going to a chiropractor every month, sometimes more, for about 2 years now.  I am starting to think that it might be doing more harm more than helping.  I talked with my therapist about it a bit today (we talk about everything, love her!) and she recommended physical therapy instead.  I'm going to call my doc tomorrow and see if I have to get a referral before going.  At this point, I'll do anything to get rid of the pain.

I feel like all I do lately is have "issues".  Ugh!  I'm hoping that getting back into a work out routine will help me get my groove back.  ;)

Last chance workout

I decided to go to Zumba tonight even after my morning walk/jog. I actually had more energy than the last couple of weeks. I'm not sure how many workouts I'll get with the Hubs coming home do I figured this was my last chance workout. I can feel it already, my legs are sore and I'm exhausted! But it feels good.

FUNK

I'm going to be honest here people.  I am in a FUNK!  I'm trying not to be but I can't help it.  I have been lazy, a major lack of energy, patience, drive or ambition.  I keep comparing how I am feeling this year to the way I felt last year and I don't like it.  My therapist has instructed me to not do this because it may be contributing to my funk but honestly I can't help it.  I just plain felt better last year.  I'm sure that a lot of it has to do with me being in a regular workout routine last year (there is something said for endorphins) and this year I haven't been able to find that rythm.

Have you noticed I haven't had any weekly weigh ins?  The honest truth is because I HATE doing them lately.  I have gained and I'm NOT happy!  I weighed in last week for a challenge with my Zumba instructor and weighed in at 228 lbs.  That's up 5 lbs from last year at this time.  I have been struggling with those same 5 lbs for quite some time.  I started to plateau and then got discouraged, workouts became fewer and fewer, eating habits became worse and I started to care less.  My mindset was why put in the effort if it's not going to reflect on the scale or with my clothes?  Not the one you should have!

In reality 5 lbs is not that much but I can feel every single one of those 5 lbs.  Running is not as easy as it was when I was down to 221, not that it was easy at that weight either, but you know what I mean.  I was way happier with how I looked then as opposed to now.

I KNOW that when I exercise and eat better that I feel better about myself but I am struggling with finding the right balance.

I mentioned my challenge.  It's a 7 month challenge with prizes each month.  My whole heart isn't in it but I'm hoping that it will help some.  I did get an advantage though.  I started shark week the same day that the challenge started so I'm hoping that I'll shed some water retention at the end of this week when I weigh in.  although, the Hubs is coming home tomorrow so then again...maybe not?!

I got my bodybugg a year ago but haven't used it since summer started.  I don't like how you can see it and was afraid of tan lines during the summer.  I'm not a huge fan of how you have to upload the info off of the armband and the food input is very time consuming.  It also doesn't link to your smartphone which is a huge inconvenience.  My mom offered to buy me another membership for Christmas but instead she's going to get me the fitbit ONE.  It does everything that the bodybugg does and more.  It will link to my iPhone and the best part is, you can clip it to your bra and have it out of sight of others.  I'm really excited to start it!

I talked to Jim tonight about rejoining the Y.  Not only will I get my fitness on but I'll also get a bit of  "me" time that I always seem to be lacking.  I think I might try going as a visitor with one of my friends to see how Ryan does in the daycare.  I love that they offer all kinds of classes to change things up and I love that we always have the option of going swimming during the winter months.  I've asked two friends to see if I could go as a visitor so we'll see how it works out.

So, I'm hoping that these two things will help shake this funk I'm in, wish me luck!

New trail

Despite the chilly temps and fog, Ryan and I went out and did 3.15 mi this morning after dropping Zack off at school.  I've been dying to try out our "new" Children of the Sun trail nearby.  It's 10 miles long and runs along our new north/south freeway.  The fog made it a little creepy at times but it was a nice change of scenery.

Forgot to grab a blanket for him so I improvised and used my coat.  Nice and cozy warm!

I had intentions of doing my C25K workout but my legs/shins were not cooperating.  I had to stop about half way through, power walk quite a bit and then was able to jog a bit on the way back.  We ended up doing 3.15 mi, and out and back route.
Yes, that behind me on the trail is horse poop.  WTH people?!

Watching the dump truck pictured below, he was mesmerized!
Such a good walking partner!

Pumpkin Pacer 5k

I picked Lyndsey up and headed to Deer Park.  We stopped to pick her mom up and be there a bit before race time.  It was COLD but thankfully there was no signs of rain!  I enjoyed watching the kids do their run in their costumes and they seemed to love it too!

Lyndsey and I wore little headbands that I had for our costumes.  Some people went all out which was cool.  I told Lyndsey I think that every 5k should be a costume race!  :)  We walked the whole course because of Lyndsey's knee and it sure felt like we walked faster than we did.  We finished in 51 minutes which seems impossible to me but I'm not going to argue it.  We had fun and that's all that mattered!

Thanks for the nice morning Lyndsey!

Tonight I used my devil headband again and went to a friend's costume party.  I didn't want to spend a fortune on a costume I probably wouldn't wear again.  So I got an idea online, made my shirt, put on my headband and viola...I was a deviled egg!!!
Happy Halloween!
