Late night walk/jog

We had a pretty lazy day today.  I got some cleaning and laundry done so it wasn't a total waste.  The downfall to a day at home is that I was afraid I wasn't going to reach my calories burned goal.  So at 7pm when Ryan should've been taking a bath, I packed him up and leashed up the dog and we hit the pavement.  (Zack went to G&G's house for the night.)  I was a little nervous that we were going to get stuck in the rain so I kept my eye on the sky.  I tried running a little faster a few time and Sadie actually was trotting which was cool to see.  It didn't last long though, the wind picked up and I was running into the wind with the stroller acting like an umbrella.  I was about a quarter mile away from home and it was still a nice temp out so I decided to go a bit further.  I remembered to use was able to use my MapMyRun app (yay!) and ended up doing 2.41 mi and burned 380+ calories, just what I needed.

I also used my MyFitnessPal app all day and rocked it!  I consumed 1831 calories (1540 was my goal) and according to my BB I burned 2732 as of right now.  That's a 901 deficit!  If I keep on this track it says I'll be down to 215 in 5 weeks.  Good God, wouldn't that be nice?!

Going down

I cheated and got on the scale this morning after waking up and was glad to see 224.2.  I'm hoping it keeps going down before Friday's weigh in.  Last weeks was too disappointing.

Restarting c25k

I think I've mentioned before that I've lost my momentum when jogging.  I can no longer jog for 30 min straight like I used to.  I love to do it and love the feel of accomplishment when I've finished.  So to get back into the swing of things I've decided to start the c25k program again.  I downloaded  a free app to my phone and got to test it out today!

My mom stayed the weekend with us so while she was still here I snuck out for a jog BY MYSELF.  I finally got my MapMyRun to work and map it while I ran, so awesome!  I also used the c25k program and decided to start W4D1.  It went great.  It felt great to be out and have a structured plan.  I loved that it told you when to run and walk and I didn't have to transfer rocks, which is a plus!!  I was also able to listen to music while I jogged which I'm not used to, so Pink and I rocked out for the jog.

Only problem I had was that my ear buds kept falling out towards the end of the jog.  I held my phone in my hands while I ran so I think all the movement jiggled them loose.  Do you run with earphones?  Do you keep your phone/ipod tucked inside your pocket or have it in your hands?

Now on to W4D2:

March of Dimes

This morning my mom, the boys and I headed downtown to walk the March of Dimes with some of my mom's co-workers.  Our family has been very fortunate and have had healthy babies but you never know when it will hit close to home.  So it was my pleasure to walk to help have healthy babies.

It was a beautiful 3 mile walk along the Spokane River, down to Riverfront Park and then back to where we started.  It was a slow go at first and my body.bugg was acting up but I think I burned close to 500 calories or so.  Not a bad way to start the day!

I was so fortunate to have two healthy babies and I hope I can help others too!

Weekly weigh in

I nervously stepped on the scale this morning before getting in the shower.  Usually I do it right after I wake up and use the restroom but I forgot.  I haven't weighed in in two weeks and was scared!  The odds were stacked against me, Jim was home and there was little activity, Friday (4/13) I stepped ont he scale and saw a gain so I knew it was coming, PLUS I started shark week.  I knew I'd have a gain but didn't expect this much!!

Starting Weight: 237
Last Week: 219.2  (04/06/12)
This Week: 226
Weekly Loss: 6.8 lb GAIN!?!??!?
Total Loss: –11

Disappointing to say the least!  I am getting back on track, there are no if, ands or buts about it!!!  I think the cleanse gave me false hope.  It might be good if you want to continue on with the plan but if you decide to regular eating then this is what happens.  My eating habits have been ok since Jim left.  I'm trying to use my Myfitnesspal app as much as possible and everything in moderation.  I did binge on  some Easter candy a few nights ago but I chalk that up to shark week.

Late nights seem to be my problem area lately, which they never used to be.  How does that happen?  You see, I wake up when one of my boys wakes me up usually anywhere from 7-7:30am.  I am constantly on the go until bedtime at 8pm.  I do get a little down time at naptime but that's not enough for me.  So once bedtime comes all I want to do is sit, relax, watch my shows and catch up on blogs and facebook.  So naturally my mind starts to think about food and usually it's not the healthy kind.  Most of the time I have a mini bag of 100 calorie popcorn but that's also when I binged on the Easter candy.

How do you curb late night cravings?

Withdrawals

I was having Z.umba withdrawals so it felt good to get back there tonight.  The skinny bitch was there which almost ruined my workout but I didn't let her.  Take that skinny little bitch!!!  :)  My friend Stef brought her son who is 6 mo older than Zack so Maddie helped watch all three boys.  They had a great time and I'm pretty sure they didn't want to leave.

Here is our Z.umba class, I am not in the picture because it was taken on a day I wasn't able to go.  Our instructor is bottom center in the pink tank top.  She's a true inspiration.  She's lost over 100 lbs with Z.umba and WW.  My niece, brother's girlfriend and mom are the three right behind her.

We were completely out of breakfast foods for the boys so we headed to the store before going home.  Zack snapped this picture on our way.
He had a great time playing with my phone as was evidenced once I got the phone back.  LOL!

A walk in the...rain?!

I didn't think I was going to get a workout in today but I did!  After dinner we made plans to walk with Lyndsey.  I put Ry in the stroller and Zack walked Sadie (more like Sadie walked Zack) down to Lyndsey's house.  I was a little nervous about the weather but decided to go for it.

Z stayed with Kyleigh to play while Lyndsey and Rocky (their dog) walked with us.  About a mile into our walk we felt a few sprinkles.  They got bigger and bigger and started increasing.  Then the thunder and lightening started in.  It was pretty warm even though it was raining so it really wasn't that bad, just wet.  Ryan didn't mind a bit.  Lyndsey and I broke off from each other and she went home and offered to bring Zack back so I didn't have to get even more wet.  Thanks Lynds!  Not far from the house the wind picked up.  It was fun!  ;)
holy wind!!!

This little guy didn't mind the rain one bit
can you see the wet hair and soaked shirt?

Recap

The hubs left bright and early on Sunday morning so we're back to our schedule.  I didn't get to Z.umba once when we was home and only got in one jog.  I hate that but we enjoyed having him home so I guess it all balances out, right?!  I'm incredibly behind on blogging so I'll sum up the past 10+ days.

Somewhere in here I bought the Game On! Diet book even though that I've been told you don't need to read it.  I figure it will hopefully give me some pointers and a good laugh (from reading reviews).  Now I just need to start studying up!

Friday - April  13
Stepped on the scale but showed a gain so I quickly got off.  Don't even remember what the number was.  :/

Saturday - April 14
I spent the morning cleaning and getting ready for Ryan's party.  Jim took the boys with him to the store so I took a break and got outside in the beautiful sunshine!  I did a 2.23 mile jog and burned 405 calories in those 32 minutes.

Monday - Wednesday
We took our new trailer on it's maiden voyage.  There was very little activity (I didn't even wear my bodybugg) and too much beer.  But it was nice to get outside even though it rained some.

Thursday - April 19
I got a new phone, the iPhone 4.  I love it!  I immediately downloaded the MapMyRun app (and still can't get it to track where I'm at) and the Myfitnesspal app.  I haven't used it to it's full potential yet but plan to.  I love how you can scan the bar code on foods and it inputs the info for you, huge time saver!

Friday - April 20
Completely forgot to weigh in.  Picked up my Zay.con chicken!

Sunday - April 22
My BIL kindly took Jim to the airport at 4:30am so I didn't have to get the boys up that early.  We woke up early and headed downtown for Race for the Cure.  I was going to use the MapMyRun app but completely forgot until well after the race because I'm not used to having it.  We did the 3.1 mile race pushing both boys in the stroller.  After the race we walked around the Women's Show before going to have lunch.  According to my BB I burned 3372 calories for the day and had over 14,000 steps!  After we got home from the race I mowed the front lawn and then later cut up all 40 lbs of the chicken I picked up on Friday.
The reason we walk - my MIL is a breast cancer survivor

Half of the chicken
Monday - April 23
Dropped Zack off at school, ran to the post office and made a last minute decision to go out for a jog before picking Z up.  It was beautiful out and almost 70* already!!  I got off to a late start and just over half way into the jog I looked at my phone and I had one hour to get home, shower and pick up Zack.  eek!!!!  I only did 1.86 miles and felt very sluggish!  Part if it could've been me trying to figure out my dang MapMyRun app on my phone while jogging.  IDK.  I also downloaded the C25K app and might try to do that again to get me back where I was.  I've lost my momentum along the way.

So here we are today.  I am in a bad mood!  Ryan was a complete pill today while having lunch at BK with friends.  My 15 year old cousin has Osteosarcoma and is in a 8 hour surgery to remove the tumor in his knee, have the knee replaced and put a steel rod in his femur.  My house is a mess and I'm tired!  And no Z.umba tonight because Zack is going to try out a karate class (which he's totally pumped for so that's pretty cute).  I think a workout would help my mood but it's not going to happen.  Tomorrow is a BUSY freaking day too!  Gah!!!

This and that

I got an email saying that the Game On! Diet book had been cancelled and I'd be issued a refund.  So I went to the store to buy it, they had one copy and it happened to be on hold for someone else.  I texted my BFF and told her that I thought that it was an omen that I shouldn't do it.

The boys and I met with friends and went downtown this evening to see the falls.  We walked the park, rode the carousel and then had dinner at Chili's.  I REALLY wanted to order their buffalo chicken salad, like really wanted to.  Instead I chose from the lighter menu and had the Sweet and Spicy Chicken.  It came with steamed broccoli and rice.  It was actually really good and the whole meal was 670 calories as opposed to 990 calories for the salad.  I wasn't stuffed when I left and it felt good to make a healthy choice!

I hit all three goals with my bodybugg today!

Oh and my shins are still killing me...

The hubs comes home tomorrow so my posts will be more sporadic.  We have Ryan's party on Saturday and then hope to go camping in the new trailer next week.  TTFN!

Shin splints

The weather was absolutely beautiful today (about time).  After we picked up Zack from school we came home, grabbed the boys some lunch and piled in the stroller.  The boys ate while I jogged.  This weekend I exchanged my Skele-toes shoes for a bigger size.  They didn't have pink so I got the teal instead, no biggie.  I decided to try them out for this morning's jog.  They felt a bit awkward at first but didn't mind them after a bit.  I did feel a bit like Fred Flinstone though.  However, by the end of our 2.76 mile jog my feet were killing me!  I had blisters on both feet.  We ended our jog at the park and I couldn't wait to get home and take them off.
My feet look huge!

Here we go!

Action shot

Lucky to have such cute jogging partners!

One tired dog!

Love a boy and his dog

Look what came in the mail today!  I ordered this last week when Jen, A PriorFatGirl ran a deal on her website for 50% off.  I got it in an XL.  The stomach and hips are a big snug but I'm looking forward to seeing how it changes.  I also got the cute little water bottle.

Front: Future PriorFatGirl. What’s in your future?
Back: PriorFatGirl Logo.
Zack went to stay at my in laws house with one of his cousins.  After Grandma picked him up I asked Lyndsey if she wanted to go for a walk and she agreed.  We left Sadie home this time and did a 2.27 mile walk, no jogging.  I opted to wear my tennis shoes with socks because of my blisters (that are almost gone now).  Kyleigh sat in the stroller with Ryan and they both did great.  After we got home Ryan and I played outside a bit.  My shins started to get more and more sore.  They hurt just to touch them.  Both pair of shoes I wore today are new so I'm not sure if it's because of the switch from the treadmill to pavement or what.  Whatever the reason, it hurts!  It's supposed to be super nice tomorrow too (yay!) but I think I'll skip the jog and just do Zumba instead.
Second time out!

I'm off to ice my shins and pout because the batteries on my bodybugg were low and didn't record my calories burned from today.  Grrrr!!!  I was really looking forward to seeing the number.

The Game On! Diet/Challenge

As I mentioned in a previous post, I ran across the Game On!.Diet while on the internet one night.  I was searching for something to do to mix up my fitness/diet routine.  I am tired of being stuck right around 220 and want/need to get past it!

Basically, I love the idea.  Let me tell you why,
  • Encourages friendly competition in weight loss
  • Eat five small meals per day
  • Earn points for sleeping, eating, exercising and drinking water
  • Earn points for exercising 20 minutes per day six days a week
  • Extensive details on foods to eat and avoid given to eliminate confusion

I love the competition part of it, I think it sounds fun.  I asked my bestie if she wants to join me but she isn't interested at this time, no worries.  I've thought about putting something on facebook about it but haven't taken that step yet.  The blog I found the info on is going to do another challenge in May.  I left a comment on Jennifer's blog and she quickly got back to me about it.  If I can't find a friend to do it with then I'll just join her challenge and hope that others do too.  I read up some more on it and I'm not sure if I can follow the food plan that they have in the book (The meals must not contain any of the "F.L.A.B.B." (fat-loading and belly-bloating) foods including all fried foods, high-fat/processed meats, anything made with refined sugar and white flour, butter, margarine, whole-fat cheese, cream, dried fruit and fruit juice.  Ummm, no wonder my stomach is fat AND Flabby!!!) I'd love to say that I could but honestly, I would be one crabby lady with no coffee creamer!!!  I read somewhere that someone did WW during the competition so I might try that again.

Eat five small meals per day.  Ok, you don't have to tell me twice!

I can definitely benefit from getting 7 hours of sleep!  I drink a lot of water so this one shouldn't be a problem at all for me.

20 min of exercise per day shouldn't be hard at all, well except for maybe on the weekends.  But if and when I do this, I'm really going to do it so there will be no excuses!

I also love the old and new habits. I've already started a list of things I want to start and stop.  I think the first one will be to stop weighing myself everyday, I hate that this has become a habit.  I'm excited to not only lose weight (hopefully) but to also change my life, mentally and physically.

They say that you will lose 1% of your weight each week.  I can deal with that!  :)

So, are you in?!  Wish me luck!

I joined an online group for the diet but can't figure out how to navigate through it yet.  I'm really looking forward to starting my first challenge!

2 week cleanse wrap up

I did 2 weeks of the Isa.genix 30 day program.  I didn't want to pay the full amount and wasn't sure that I'd stick to it for 30 days, that's a lot.  I had two cleanse days and the rest were shake days.  I did pretty good on the shake days.  I replaced 2 meals with shakes, mostly breakfast and lunch.  I had a few snacks throughout the day, mostly celery and apples.  The cleanse days were HARD!  I thought about food all.day.long which normally I do not.  I hated it.  I did ok in the morning but come about naptime I was starving!  I was able to have some almonds, an apple and celery for a snack but it didn't cut it.  I had the snacks they provided too, they helped a bit but not for long.  Both days I ended up caving around dinner time.  On the second cleanse day I ate a cupcake and two big spoonfuls of frosting and I'm not even a huge fan of either of them.  I did like that for most of my snacks I kept to healthy snacks like carrots or celery, which normally I don't think of having first.

Overall, it was ok.  I lost 4.8 lbs and roughly 3.5 inches total.  I expected more inches but I'll take what I can get.  I find it hard to take measurements because I never know if I'm doing them in the same spot.  I think the weight loss is great but I'm also wondering if shark week had anything to do with it too.  Who knows?  I do love that it wasn't a crazy amount though, slow and steady is good.

I still have some left over shakes and other stuff that I'll continue to use up, probably for breakfasts.  But I'm not sure that I'll do it again.  I like food and I like eating.  It seems healthier to have my five healthy meals a day instead of two shakes and a small meal.  I understand the concept of it all and I think it's great that you're replenishing your body with the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that it needs but I want to learn healthy eating habits.

I have thought about doing the 24 day Advo.care challenge.  I have heard great things and seen great results from several friends.  Have you had any experiences with it?

As I was searching for advice online one night, I somehow stumbled upon The.Game On! Diet.  Has anyone heard of it?  I think I'll write more about this in another post.  I started to here, but it's gotten WAY too long!

So overall, the cleanse was ok.  It was nice to try something different but I really don't think it's for me.

Weekly Weigh In and a few other things

Starting Weight: 237
Last Week: 221.6
This Week: 219.2
Weekly Loss: -2.4
Total Loss: –17.8

Today is my baby boy's 2nd birthday!  I suppose I can't call him a baby anymore?!  I remember the day that he was born like it was yesterday.   We had his csection scheduled for April 9 but when I went in for my appointment before, I had high blood pressure and my doc didn't want to risk anything so she took him a few days early.
Roughly 231 lbs and about to leave for the hospital (Jim's even lost a ton of weight in the past 2 yrs)
Welcome to the world, Ryan!
I made it to Z.umba last night and it felt GOOD!  My SIL offered to watch the boys while I went so that they could play with their cousins.  Zack was beyond excited and they had a great time.  I always use Z.umba toning sticks except for the warm up and cool down songs.  One slipped out of my hands last night and thankfully flew in front of me instead of hitting someone else!  I told my mom and one of the instructors that they need that little strap like the Wii controllers have.  LOL!  I haven't uploaded my body.bugg stats yet but it felt like a good workout, my headband was soaked!!  My shins are killing me, my right more than my left.  I tried to baby them as much as I could.  I'm wondering if my shoes aren't the right ones for me jogging.  I got my Skeletoes in the mail a few weeks ago but I need to exchange them for a bigger size.  Until then I'll just take it easy but man I hate shin splints!!
After class my friend, Stef came over to talk a bit.  She complimented me and said that she's really starting to notice me "shrinking" (her words, not mine  ha!).  We talked a bit how discouraged I was.  She shared with me how she's seeing a naturopath and suggested getting my thyroid and hormone levels checked.  When I went for my physical last July I was supposed to have my blood drawn but never did.  So when the hubby is home next I think I'll have it done.  I feel like if I'm putting this much work into it then it shouldn't be such a struggle.  Maybe there is something else going on?!

My 2 week Isa.genix cleanse is done.  My mom is coming over today to celebrate Ryan's birthday.  I will have her take my measurements and will post wrap up about it soon.  But as far as the scale goes, I lost 4.8 lbs on my 2 week cleanse.  Not too bad?!

Finally it looks like we'll be able to getting outside for some jogs again, yay!

New headband

Have you noticed my new zebra print headband in my last two posts?  After wearing the grey one and struggling with it the whole jog I decided to make my own.  I had bought the corduroy feeling fabric to make some little girl booties a while back.  So during nap time one day I whipped up this head band in about 10 min and it works PERFECT!  The texture of the fabric is just enough to keep it in place.  The true test will be tonight at Z.umba when I rock it with my zebra print belly skirt.  Woot woot!  :)

Cleansing

Today is my second (and probably final) cleanse day.  I had planned on spending most of the day out of the house, with the exception of naptime.  That way I wasn't home seeing and thinking about food.  However, the littlest man in our house had a different idea.  Sometime last night he puked in his bed and continued to do so when he woke up.  Poor little guy!  Even though it threw a wrench in my plans I'm glad it's today and not on Friday, his 2nd birthday!

Last week's cleanse day went ok.  I could've done better but I didn't fail miserably.  Up until about 3 or 4pm I was doing good.  Then the hunger really hit and I caved and had 2 cheese sticks.  I had a few other snacks here and there too but again, nothing major.  I thought about food all.day.long so Thursday's morning shake tasted like the best one yet!  To spice it up a bit I drank my cleans for life from a wine tumbler to make it seem more exciting.  LOL!
I have jumped on the scale a few times and am actually really disappointed.  I keep hearing about all these pounds shed and inches lost.  I stepped on the scale the other day and had GAINED.  WTH?!  I know that this week was shark week and that may have something to do with it but still.  I'm not expecting a huge loss, just something to get me over my hump and I wasn't seeing it.  We'll see what Friday's numbers show.

I'm glad that I was able to get three jogs in outside since today it is snowing again!  Got to love Spring in the Pacific Northwest!

Horray for sunshine!

Today was another nice day, high 50's but a little windy.  After R-man's nap we went for another jog.  Zack rode his bike again and did great.  We ended up just doing 2.25 miles.  They were not easy miles though.  I had a terrible head wind and my legs felt like lead even though I was eager to get out there.  I mostly jogged and walked off and on.

We came home and then decided to enjoy the sunshine some more by going to the park because who knows how long it will stay for.  It was a win win for all of us!

Jelly Bean Virtual Race

Tonight I participated in the Jelly Bean Virtual Race.  I didn't plan on it, I planned to do it tomorrow since the weather is predicted to be nice.  Well, we headed out just before dinner since the sun came out.  Zack rode his bike and we took our normal route but this time took the dog.  About a mile into it Zack had to go potty and wouldn't go outside.  Luckily we were just up the road so we headed back, he peed and we were back on the road.  Only thing different was he decided to hop in the stroller and we headed north.  Phew, I could feel his weight especially since heading north means more hills than heading south.

We finished in 46 minutes with many stops along the way.  I don't really care about the time, I'm just happy to be out there jogging it!

Thank you to Ann for making me aware of this race and thank you to Jess for organizing this race!
