Month end totals

36 miles and almost 12 hours of workout time?!  Not bad, not bad!  I’m hoping to beat it next month.  I’m shooting for 45 miles for the month of July.  Wish me luck!

Weekly weigh in

Starting Weight: 237
Last Week: 226
This Week: 224.8
Weekly Loss: -1.2
Total Loss: -12.2

I was actually shocked because the scale has been all over the place.  I stepped on it several times just to be sure.  I am so excited to have reached my first goal, 5%.  I can’t wait to try out my new shoes!!

image

**updated to add**

Tried my new shoes out for a 2.44 mile walk this morning along the river with friends.  They felt awesome!  The walk also felt awesome.  There are a few inclines which was nice to get the heart rate up.  With 5 small children in tow we had a few stops to make for drinks, snacks or potty breaks so it took a little longer than we thought.  It was a beautiful walk which made it that much better.  Smile

Night out with the girls

I went out with some friends for dinner tonight.  They changed the location last minute.  We were meeting at a place I have never been to.  I looked up their menu before hand and nothing sounded appetizing, except for the time out with friends.  lol  I got there and ordered two Coors Lights, over micro brews which are more calories/points.  I then ordered a salad instead of sharing the pizzas that they were sharing.  The pizzas did look delicious but I stuck to my guns and ate the salad. It had a creamy dressing but thankfully it wasn’t much so it shouldn’t make much difference, right?!  I’m hoping that my efforts show on the scale tomorrow!

5K

I am meeting some friends of dinner tonight so I knew I wasn’t going to get a walk in AND I will more than likely be eating more calories/points.  So I packed the boys up and we headed to a nearby elementary school to play at the park.  Total the walk was 3.57 miles, more than a 5K.  Only, it wasn’t like a true 5K though because we stopped for about an hour to let the boys play.

My shins were killing me on the way there, my muscles were extremely tight.  I don’t think I had enough water this morning.  While we were at the park I drank about 12 oz of water and had some watermelon.  My legs were much better on our way home.

It felt good to get out in the morning.  However, I don’t think it’s the best timing for us.  Ryan normally naps from 2-4or5pm.  He was exhausted from the sun and fresh air and fell asleep about a 1/2 mile from our house.  So it may throw him off a bit today, we’ll see.

Tomorrow we are going to do a walk with some friends on a local walking trail that follows our river.  We’ll see how he does for that.  I’m looking forward to it though!

Walking with Mom

image

My mom came over and stayed the night with us.  So last night after dinner we did our reverse 2.05 mi walk.  Zack wanted to be pulled in the wagon (you can just barely see him) and I pushed Ryan and the cinder block in the stroller.  We had a good pace but I was not sweaty or felt like I pushed as hard as normal.  But yet we did it in the same amount of time, I don’t get it?!  We let the boys play at the park for a bit, it was nice.

I woke up this morning and my legs are FINALLY starting to feel better after Wednesday’s work out.  I can handle the stairs without grunting which is a plus!

I had an awesome workout week and I’m hoping it shows on the scale on Tuesday.  My goal was to work out 3 days this week and I actually did six!!

image

I’m going to stick to my 3 days a week goal this week since Jim will be home and I’m going to try my best to watch what I eat.  Wish me luck!

This and That

My legs are still killing me!  Thankfully a friend told me a trick to making it easier to go down stairs, turn around and go down backwards.  I was hesitant since I’m already a klutz, but it worked!!

We also went for a late walk.  I decided to change it up again and take a new route.  We walked down to a park near Wal-Mart.  I wanted to try this new route but decided since it was so late we’d save it for later.  Anyway, it took me 27 min to do the first stent, 1.42 miles.  The walk there is almost all down hill and a pretty steep hill.  Our new stroller doesn’t have a hand break so I got a good resistance training in.  Smile  The boys played for about a half hour before heading back.  I beat my previous time and did it in 25 min!  I was darn proud because this time it was almost all up hill.  I actually did some jogging and it helped my hurting legs (seriously hurts to the touch).  I was huffing and puffing when we got home from jogging down our road and I was hot and sweaty.  I consider it a good work out!

imageIMG_3518

My goal was to work out 3 times this week and have exceeded it.  I have done a 2+ mile walk 4 days this week (9.46 mi) and a video tape another day.  Not bad!  My mom is coming over tomorrow and I’m hoping to get a walk in with her and/or the 30 day.shred.  She’s up for doing it with me, oh boy!

I love that we have made an evening walk a part of our routine (on most days).  It makes me feel better and helps make the evening go by so much faster.  Plus it’s much easier for me to put them in the stroller and go, then my work out is done before they go to bed and I don’t have to work out after they go to bed, that time is mine!

On our walk to Fred Meyer last night I bought a new pair of shoes.  The thing I love the most about them is that they were only $17!  They were on clearance and then they were an additional 50% off, score!  My reward for my first goal is a new pair of shoes, I desperately need them!  I thought about putting them on for our walk home but Zack was sitting in the stroller so I couldn’t get them out.  I took that as a sign that I should wait until I hit my goal.  Can’t wait to try them out!

I haven’t been journaling my food so far.  I’m basically just trying to watch my portions and making smart decisions.  I’m trying to think ahead now.  I’m going to dinner/drinks with friends on Monday night.  I’ve looked at the menu and am trying to figure out what to get.  I will be having a beer since they make good microbrews but the food is difficult for me.  It’s like I have a devil on on shoulder and an angel on the other.  I know I need to eat healthy but I want to splurge and have something I shouldn’t, especially with a weigh in the next morning.

Speaking of weigh ins, I’ve been thinking of switching the day to Friday.  But I can’t decide.  I did Tuesdays because that’s what the weight loss challenge was doing.  But Fridays seem ideal because the weekend is most likely when I “mess up” and having a whole week to get back on track would be nice.  Thoughts?

Jim is coming home soon so my workouts will probably slow down for a bit.  I’m hoping that him being home won’t make a difference but we’ll see.  He is usually a good sport and will walk with me but it’s not at my pace or distance.

And one more thing before I must go to bed.  For a while I’ve always washed my jeans and then hung dry them for two reasons #1 it makes them last longer but #2 so that they don’t shrink so I can still fit into them.  Well, the other day I washed my jeans and DRIED them!  I put them on this morning and they fit nicely.  When I hang dry them they’re starting to get very baggy after a half day or so.  It was a nice feeling!!

Shredded

OMG, my leg muscles were (and still are) in pain all.day.long!  They hurt to just touch them.  I’m pretty sure that they are shredded themselves.  Sitting down in a chair or on the toilet hurts the worse, ouch!  I look like an idiot trying to walk down stairs.  I guess this shows how out of shape I am!

I did do a 2.25 mile walk to the store with the boys after dinner.  Strangely enough when I was walking my muscles actually felt better.  It’s once I got back home and sat down that they killed me.

I haven’t done push ups in probably 10 years or so.  My arms are a bit sore and so are my abs.  But I’m pretty sure those side lunges are what got my thighs hurting.  Ouch!

I do plan to do it again but once my muscles aren’t in so much pain!

Shredding

I’m not talking cheese, I’m talking fat!  It was over 80 degrees finally today!  We spent from 2pm on outside soaking up the sun.  After dinner we decided to head to the pool for a bit.  Since I missed my walk, I decided to try out my 30.Day.Shred for the first time.  OMG!  My legs felt like jello after doing the video!  I’m afraid if I don’t head to bed now that I’ll have to sleep in the chair!

IMG_3431

My heart rate was up and I was burning up but I’m not sure if the redness is a sunburn or from working out.

A day of rest

I know that Sundays are supposed to be a day of rest but I decided today was my Sunday.  I had lunch with a friend for her birthday.  I had a taco salad which was not good and so not worth it!  I had chips with bean dip but on the plus side, I avoided ordering pop and stuck with water.  Which is kinda huge for me.  I’m a sucker for fountain pop but am trying to cut it out, I don’t want the empty calories.  After lunch we hit up a local park to let the boys burn off some energy.  I chased Ryan around a bit but the only sweat I had was from our first 80 degree day.  Ryan took a late nap when we got home and I mowed the lawn, only using the push mower on the front.  I was wiped out come diner time.  I had 2 pieces of left over pizza and then we walked to the park.  I didn’t feel like getting a walk in and I feel guilty now.  Is that normal?  Now as I sit here and type this, my left leg is cramping terribly.  Dang, should’ve walked!

Week 8 weigh in

image

Starting weight: 237
Last weigh-in weight: 227.4
Current weight: 226
Total lost: 11 lbs (4.64%)
Next goal weight: 225

I did it, I’ve lost over 10 lbs officially now!  I was hoping to hit my first goal of 225, but maybe next week.  I’m happy with my weight loss and feel great so that’s all that matters, right?!

I pushed through it

Today was a busy day, this whole week is going to be actually.  Today was Zack’s first day of VBS.  The church he’s going to is just over 15 minutes away and we had to be there at 9am.  We made it and we were actually early, it felt good!

We came home and I contemplated doing a walk while he was gone but then got side tracked.  We picked up a very excited Zack and came home to have lunch.  I had forgotten that I invited my (third/fourth, something like that) cousin over so I could meet her baby boy.  I frantically cleaned up my house for her arrival while eating a wrap and cucumber salad.

We chatted for a few hours and I got to snuggle a sweet little 4 month old.  I didn’t feel like cooking so we picked up Papa.Murphy’s and had the chicken artichoke delite pizza.  Love it and never thought I would!

I ate way too much and didn’t feel like working out at all.  But I remembered that tomorrow is weigh in day so I knew I had to.  I was kind of dragging my feet and even told my BFF that I didn’t think I was going to do a full 2 miles.

As soon as I pushed the stroller out of the garage I was ready to go!  I pushed through it and I’m so glad.  To spice it up a bit we did the reverse route and it actually seemed faster!  By the time we were home I didn’t feel like I was ready to be done so we walked around the block.  I did a total of 2.27 mi in 46 minutes.

About a mile into the walk.  After seeing this picture I realize I look horrible in yellow and it is way too low cut!

\648327776_2318007745_631868456_1308630859337

Normally I am going up this hill but today, down.

648327894_2318008153_631868579_1308630841821

I think Zack was tired this walk, he was awfully quiet.  Then towards the end he started doing this to talk to me and I think it’s because he was fighting sleep.  LOL

Post work out pics.  FTR I will not be wearing my pony tail like that anymore!

Scale

I saw 226 on the scale this morning!  Smile

Motivation

I’ve been thinking about my goal lately.  Ideally I’d love to be 160 lbs.  I was once there in 2001 and looked and felt the best I ever have!  I was walking on an regular basis but didn’t lose the weight in a fully healthy way.  I took Metabo.life, the kind with the ephedrine, but had no side effects.

According to some sites on line I should be 114-151 depending on my frame.  I believe in 2001 I reached 150 but didn’t stay there long because I stopped taking the Metabo.life.  I don’t need to be 150lbs because that’s not very realistic for me but I’d take 160-180lbs.

IMG_3114IMG_3106IMG_3101IMG_3105IMG_3112IMG_3122

I feel horrible saying that once I got married, I gained weight.  But honestly, it’s the truth.  I got comfortable, we ate out a lot, I focused my attention on other things and got lazy.  I joined WW in 2004 because I’d had it and got back down there again.

IMG_3120IMG_3121

Then the babies came!  My body changed shape and I’m afraid it will never get back to where I want it.  The elasticity in my skin SUCKS!  My stomach is a wreck.  I have stretch marks everywhere!  but I try to remind myself that they’re permanent reminders of each one of my boys.  Smile

So I’m posting these pictures as a motivation to lose the weight.  I was there once so I’m hoping I can get there again!

Progress pictures

I want to see my progress so I took a few pictures yesterday.  This is after losing 9.6 lbs.  I am looking for some pictures from March or April so show where I started.
IMG_3023IMG_3024IMG_3025
227 lbs
My pants are Fashion Bug’s size 20.  They are getting very baggy in the butt and legs.  The waist still isn’t super loose but it feels better than it did before.  I tried on some of my size 18 jeans and they fit.  I am able to zip them finally but they’re still snug and I don’t feel comfortable wearing them yet.
And here are some in my “yoga pants”

Now, I realize that the first picture was 3 months after having Ryan but I still can’t stand the way I look.

Day of rest?

I tried to get a walk in before Zack got home from my in-laws house.  As I stepped outside it started to sprinkle so I decided to have a "day of rest".  Well then Zack got home, we had dinner and made a last minute decision to go for a walk.  I needed to after the delicious dinner at my parents house last night (ribs, potatoes and corn) followed by a small blizzard. :/  I felt like I needed to get out and move!  I kept it somewhat low key, only power walking no jogging, to give my shins a break (which it did).  I still did the 2.05 mile walk in 35 minutes, the same as if I were to jog some of it.  I don't get it.  The weather was perfect though!  It wasn't too warm or too cold, it was overcast but not a single sprinkle while we were out.

I have been reading some weight loss blogs and feeling very inspired.  I love to see the progress that these women have made.  It gives me hope!

Ouch

I challenged myself to work out three times this week and I accomplished it!  It feels good, it really does.  Zack went to my in laws house this morning so when I put Ryan in the BOB it was light, very light.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to push it that way.  So I strapped in a cinder block in Zack’s seat to make up for some of his weight.  It worked like a charm!  To avoid funny looks I covered it up with a blanket.

647612478_2315479630_0647613272_2315482722_0

My walk/jog this evening was difficult though.  About a half mile into it my shins started cramping up really bad.  I honestly didn’t know if I was going to make the full 2 miles.  I tried stretching them out the best I could and decided to push through it.  It hurt.  But I’m glad I didn’t give up.  About another half mile or so it started getting better and by the end of the 2 miles I felt great.  I also did some more lunges which helped take the pressure off of my shins.

I took a different route to avoid a former co-worker, sounds horrible doesn’t it?  Let me explain.  When I was jogging yesterday we ran by her house.  I saw her in her driveway (she doesn’t know I know where she lives) but didn’t want to stop and/or feel like talking so we kept on going.  She texted me a bit later and said she saw me and wants to walk together sometime.  I like walking and talking with friends but didn’t feel like company tonight.  So when I saw that she was home I took a different road that doesn’t go by her house.  :/  I wasn’t sure how long the route would be and I thought for sure it would take me a lot longer since my shins hurt so bad.  But I was surprised when I came home and mapped my route, 35 min to do 2 miles again.  Not bad for hurting and stopping to stretch a few times.

My neighbor called after we got home and before getting off the phone she said she saw me jogging and gave me a, “you go girl!”  LOL!

Post work out pic647614369_2315486587_0

I think I will go ice my shins now, I just touch them and they feel bruised.  I will probably take tomorrow off and then get back to it on Sunday.  I’m hoping to get at least 3 days in next week too but am hoping for four.  We shall see.

Have a good weekend!

We did it

Just as we were packing up to head out for a walk/jog it started sprinkling.  I gave Zack the option of going or staying home and bless his heart, he said “let’s go!”  So we got some blankets for the boys and headed out.  I had a windbreaker on and realized how non-breathable it was by the end of the walk/jog.

image

About a half mile into my walk Zack said he wanted to get out and walk to.  I told him he had to keep up if he was going to do so.  So he jumps out of the stroller and starts stretching.  LOL!

image

This is his ready, set, go!

image

The stinker is pretty quick!  We paced each other most of the time but then he’d always end up ahead of me.  But I have 180 lbs on him so it’s to be expected.  He was quite the sport and ran quite a ways.  He’d get tired and then get in the stroller, then a few blocks later he wanted to do it again.  It was actually really nice!  It challenged me to do it too.  I didn’t like the stop and go of getting in and out of the stroller but I'll take what I can get.

The rain had let up and I wasn’t ready to be done with our walk when we got close to home so we went for a bit more.  When we got home I mapped it and total the walk/jog was 2.45 miles and we finished it in 47 minutes.  I think it could’ve been done faster but like I said, there was quite a few stop and go’s.  I’m anxious to push harder and see how fast I can do it or how much further I can go.

Feels good to get outside again!  Another blog I read posts pictures of herself after work outs (and before and during) so I thought I would too.

Rain, rain, go away

I had high hopes of getting a 2 mile walk in yesterday but this is what our weather looked like all day!

image

The boys were starting to get very antsy so we headed to the mall and let them burn off some energy in the play area.  BUT that doesn’t help me at all.

It’s been raining on and off today too.  I’m hoping once Ryan wakes up form his nap we can head outside.  Come on Mother Nature, work with me here!

Feel the burn

I did my neighborhood 2 mile walk this evening with the boys.  I only jogged once but to spice it up a bit I decided to do quite a bit of lunging.  Holy smokes!  My legs already ache…no pain, no gain right?!

Week 7 (final) weigh in

Starting weight: 237
Last weigh-in weight: 228.6
Current weight: 227.4  (-1.2)
Total lost: 9.6 lbs (4.05%)   SO close!
Next goal weight: 225

I am happy with my 1.2 lb weight loss this week.  It might have been more had I not had a huge dinner last night for my mom’s birthday.  Obviously, it might have been more had I had more exercise too.  But honestly, I’ll take the 1.2 loss!

I did weigh myself at my parent’s house on Saturday morning and saw 224 on her scale!  It was sure nice to see but I know it’s because I was sick on Friday.  My next goal is 225 on my scale.  I’m going to try extra hard this week to get there!!!

Lazy

I am feeling lazy!  I haven’t had any real exercise since Thursday.  I did about 15 min on Friday at Relay for Life.  I wanted to do more but that’s all I could handle after being sick all day.  We spent the whole weekend with my mom so I wasn’t able to get a walk in.  I’m hoping to get at least three 2 mile walks in this week, wish me luck.  Also wish me luck for my weigh in tomorrow, I’m not too hopeful since I’ve been so lazy.  We shall see!

YUM!!

These YUMMY frozen yogurt bars were being sampled while we were at Costco so Zack and I tried them.  Holy goodness!!!  They are 2 WW points and oh.so.yummy!

Have you lost weight?

I have been slacking on my activity the last few days.  I wanted to get a walk in tonight but the weather is holding me back.  It keeps looking like it’s going to rain and I do NOT want to get stuck in the rain.  The good news is tomorrow is Relay for Life and I plan to do a lap for each person that is on my list, which is at 13 right now so that’s a good 3 miles.

I met two friends at the park this morning.  One friend I haven’t seen in a month or so.  First thing she asked me when she arrived was, “have you lost weight?  You look great Kel!”  I loved every minute of it, so nice to hear those words again!

**update**
After the boys’ bath I took the stroller out of the car and the boys and I went on a walk.  I changed my route up a bit.  Why?  Because I put on some yoga pants that are still a little snug and my normal 2 mile walk ends up on a busy road by our house.  I didn’t want to have my jiggly, dimply butt out there for everyone to see.  LOL!  I’m just being honest people.

I tried jogging again today.  I did it more than I have in the past and I felt pretty good.  Zack is quite the cheerleader.  Each time I’d start jogging he’d say “alright!” or “go faster”.  LOL

I feel like I’m starting to get shin splints, mainly in my right leg but oddly enough it feels better when I jog.  I’m sure it has a lot to do with my shoes, they’re old and beat up but I HATE buying new shoes.

Weight loss challenge extended

Some of the other girls participating in the weight loss challenge weren’t pleased with their numbers so they extended it another week.  Seems kinda silly to me but I’m not going to complain.  So I have one more week, wish me luck!

A good day

I had a good day of activity today.  After Ryan’s nap we walked to Fred Meyer for lunch.  They have a really good turkey bacon wrap.  I got some new popchips (that are delicious) and had water.  I felt good about my eating.  Our walk to and from the store was a total of 2 miles and took me 50 minutes.  I even jogged a few times on our way there!

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/36786842

image

I only ate half of my wrap for lunch so I ate the second half for dinner.  While eating dinner my friend Kim texted and asked if I wanted to walk with her since we got rained out last night.  She came over and we did my 2.16 mile route and took us approximately 50 minutes, maybe a few more.

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/35096664

I love days that I can get out and walk.  I feel good knowing that I walked 4 miles today.  My toe still hurts, the bruising has gone away but it is still VERY tender.  It bothers me when I start my walk but then slowly goes away (or maybe numb?).

Week 6 weigh in

*updated*
Starting weight: 237
Last weigh-in weight: 228.6
Current weight: 228.2
Total lost: 8.8 lbs (3.71%)
Next goal weight: 225

Our 6 week Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge has come to an end.  I weighed in this morning and lost .4 lbs.  I am 100% content with that!  The past 9 days have been hard because Jim was home, we were hardly ever home and it was hard to plan meals, eat healthy and get activity in.  Plus, my monthly visitor arrived 10 days early (grr).  So I was happy to see that I at least lost something.

I tried to get a 2 mile walk in last night.  I called a friend to walk with us and just as she arrived it started thundering and was a down pour.  I was really looking forward to it too.  It’s supposed to rain off and on today so I’m going to try to get out and do it in between naptimes and raindrops.

Activity Challenge

I challenged my best friend Sarah to an 8 week activity challenge and it started yesterday.  I am very excited to start this adventure with her, even though we’re thousands of miles away.  She created a fabulous spreadsheet to log our time on and then after 4 weeks whomever had the most time will win a gift card.  We’ll do it again for another 4 weeks after that.  I’m hoping that this keeps me moving and losing!

Thanks for accepting the challenge Sarah!  I look forward to “working out with you” even though we can’t do it in person.  :/
