C25k w2d2 done

I saw the forecast and decided to get out early and do my run.  The rest of the week is busy so I'm not sure if I'll get another one in.  :/  The weather was beautiful this morning.  It was a tough run though, my shins were tight and sore from Saturdays race still and my legs felt like lead.  But I got out there and finished!!

W2d1

It is beautiful here this week!!!

So Ryan and I headed out after dropping Zack off at school to start week 2.  It was a great run and I probably could've kept going.  I ended up doing just over 2 miles and was a bit faster than last time I took both boys, a lot less stop and go.  :)

C25k w1d3

I didn't have any motivation since it was SO windy outside.  After dinner Zack begged to go on a walk/bike ride.  At first, I'll admit, I said no because it was 30 mph winds all day.  But then the guilt set in and we got ready for a walk/run/bike ride.  I got a sweatshirt and forgot to put my hair up...big mistake.  Hair down plus wind while running is not fun!  But we got out there and did it!  I'm glad we did too.  The second to last jog session was all uphill!!  I told myself I could make it for the whole minute uphill and I did!

We ended up doing over 2 miles total.  However, I'm about 3 min slower running with kids than without.  I'm not going for time or anything, I just found it interesting.  On to week 2!

I vow to never forget a hair tie again!

C25k w1d2...again

My back got better after a few days thankfully!  Phew!!!  So I've decided to skip Zum.ba for a while and stick to c25k again.  The weather is getting nicer and I'd much rather get outside than go to the hot gym.  I've also discovered that there are workout videos on On Demand so I'm going to try some of those!  I've previewed some and found a few that I like.

I officially started C25k last week but didn't get a full workout in.  Zack was on his bike and apparently his legs were tired so we had to turn back before it was finished.  I still got in 1.48 miles but I wanted to "officially" complete day 1.  Oh well, learning to be flexible.  ;)

So today I dropped off Zack and Ryan and I headed out since it is beautiful!!!!!  Ryan is starting to unbuckle when he wants but thankfully he waited until my cool down and I was able to complete the full workout.  I feel good for completing it and it feels good to get back to it.  I'm going to try to do one on Sunday when Jim's home since I won't be able to on Monday since Ellie will be here.

Almost half way through, loving the sun!

Restarting c25k

I think I've mentioned before that I've lost my momentum when jogging.  I can no longer jog for 30 min straight like I used to.  I love to do it and love the feel of accomplishment when I've finished.  So to get back into the swing of things I've decided to start the c25k program again.  I downloaded  a free app to my phone and got to test it out today!

My mom stayed the weekend with us so while she was still here I snuck out for a jog BY MYSELF.  I finally got my MapMyRun to work and map it while I ran, so awesome!  I also used the c25k program and decided to start W4D1.  It went great.  It felt great to be out and have a structured plan.  I loved that it told you when to run and walk and I didn't have to transfer rocks, which is a plus!!  I was also able to listen to music while I jogged which I'm not used to, so Pink and I rocked out for the jog.

Only problem I had was that my ear buds kept falling out towards the end of the jog.  I held my phone in my hands while I ran so I think all the movement jiggled them loose.  Do you run with earphones?  Do you keep your phone/ipod tucked inside your pocket or have it in your hands?

Now on to W4D2:

W9D2…complete!  Since I battled a migraine all day yesterday I opted not to do my workout.  So during naptime today I watched the part of the CMA’s that I missed last night while on the treadmill.  It was a little more tough today than on Monday but that’s ok.

A little over a week before my 5k.  I’m a little nervous, honestly.  I saw the course map and I don’t think it’s completely flat.  The courses I’ve been running have been.  Also, when I run on the treadmill it says with my two 5 min walks and the 30 min jog that I’ve only completed 2 miles?!  I wasn’t as worried when I was running outside because it says 2.91 miles.  But the more I think about it, that’s also with the 5 min warm up and cool down. Hmm…

After my 5k I am meeting 3 other girlfriends and we’re headed to Sandpoint, ID to have a girls night.  We have a hotel rented, plan on having dinner, drinks maybe some shopping and lots of GIRL time!  I can’t wait!!!

C25K W8D1

I made it to week 8!  I’m proud of myself!  This week is three 28 min jogs!  I missed my workout this morning because of an appointment (which turned out to be a waste of time).  So after I got home and we all had lunch I loaded both boys up and we headed out.  I was nervous taking Zack.  Not because of the weight but because of the distraction, sounds horrible doesn’t it?  I like working out in the morning with just Ryan (especially when he falls asleep) or even better BY MYSELF.  It’s peaceful and I crave the quiet time.  But I knew I had to get out there today so I did.  It turned out to be ok even.  Zack did pretty good and Ryan fell asleep quickly even with his brother there.  Zack sang and talked to himself and about 18 min in he told me that he was impressed with me.  Ha!!  Maybe I will take him with me more often!  For moral support.  LOL  The past 3 days have been beautiful and so was today!  The sun was out during my jog but it wasn’t too hot.  I was a bit slower today but I felt great and didn’t have difficulty at all, the extra 3 min didn’t even phase me.  All in all, a good day!

C25K W7D3

I finished week 7!!!!  Only 2 more to go!  Today seemed easier actually.  I had a tough time getting started but once I did it wasn’t bad.

IMG_9032

It was much colder today, I’m not even sure it was 50 degrees but it felt good.  Until I was finished and then my chest was burning, the coughing started up and the mucus was in full force!  I went to the doctor on Wednesday and got on an antibiotic but it’s seemed to break up all the crap so I feel like I’m coughing up more almost.  But hopefully it will clear all this up soon!

I felt good on my jog so I decided to jog a bit more at the end.  I wanted to complete a full out and back jog and see how far it was.  So I did.  Turns out the jog is exactly 2 miles!  Normally my workouts have been 14 min/mi with the walks but just this jog was 13 min/mi.  Not too shabby considering I’m pushing “Cindy” and Ryan.  Smile

So just now I looked up on the Cool Running C25K program’s website where you can choose to run for time or distance and it says 25 min should equal 2.5 mi.  Oops!  I will still probably keep on track with what I’m doing.  I have a few weeks in between when I finish my training and my first official 5k so I can build up to 3 mi.  Right?!

C25K W7D2

Not gonna lie, I wanted to quit or take a small break several times but I didn’t.  I mapped the running part out and it is just about 2 miles.  With the walking and jogging it’s at 2.45 mi.  I’m hoping by the end of the training I’ll be up to 3 miles?!  not sure if I should continue running for time or for distance?  I guess I’ll stick to the plan, they seem to know what they’re doing.  LOL

C25K W7D1

This morning we had a field trip with Zack’s preschool so I couldn’t get my jog in.  The weather was overcast but when we got home it was raining.  I put Ryan down for a nap and drug my feet but finally got on the treadmill.

It wasn’t nearly as bad this time but still don’t like it as much as running outside.  I got about 18 min into the jog and got an instant stomach ache and had to run to the restroom.  (TMI?)  I am so thankful we were home otherwise I would’ve been screwed!  I got back on and finished the rest of my jog/walk.

I am having a hard time figuring out the speed thing.  I started out with 3.5 but then about half way I slowed down to 3.2 because it seemed too fast.

I was a sweaty mess afterwards, tried to get it a pic of my forehead sweating.  I do like that I have the option of the treadmill on rainy days but would still rather jog outside.  Let’s hope for better weather on Wed!

C25K W6D3

I did it!  The weather was a little warmer today and NO rain so we headed outside!  I was actually dreading it, it was tough and at times I was hating it but it feels darn good to have completed it!  I was surprised that I only looked at my stop watch maybe 5 times?  The first two were at 4 and 8 minutes which is an improvement.  I took a different route which I actually like better, less cars speeding by.

IMG_8800

Ryan fell asleep again at about 17 min in.  It doesn’t surprise me.

IMG_8799

I need to go to the store.  We’re all out of foods, healthy foods.  I have been having the Cliff bars for breakfast and I ran out last week.  So this morning all I had was a banana and I’m now starving!  We’re meeting a friend and her little boy for lunch at BK so I think I’ll opt for a salad or maybe splurge and then have a salad for dinner.  I haven’t decided yet.

Tonight my friend Lyndsey and I are going to pick up our race packets for our second 10k on Sunday.  My mom will stay here Saturday night since the race starts at 8:30am!  I’m SO looking forward to getting out child-free and having at least 2 hours or more of just girlfriend time!

We have a busy day planned on Saturday and will be tough food wise.  My MIL’s birthday is that day so my SIL’s planned a surprise party for her at a local Chinese restaurant.  I’ll have to see what is best to eat, prior to going.  Then in the evening we have an Octoberfest party to go to at a friend of the family’s house.  Good thing we’re walking 6 miles the next morning!  Smile

C25K W6D2…again

Last night I made it to Zumba.  This was the first time that I put the boys in the child watch and it went ok.  Ryan lasted the whole time, much to my surprise.  He was crying in one of the worker’s arms when I returned but they said he did well the entire time.

It has been raining pretty much all day which meant no working out outside.  Sad smile  I did my first jog on the treadmill!  I’m not going to lie, I didn’t love it.  I think I like jogging outside much better.  I jogged at 3.5mph and the whole time I kept thinking that that’s how long it would take me to finish my first 5k, one hour?!?!  I sure hope I pick up some speed!  I didn’t have any music so maybe that would help?  Zack came in the room a few times and I definitely preferred the peace and quiet (I never get that) over distractions.  I had a focal point on the wall and stared at it the whole time.  When I jog outside I have changing scenery.  At first it seemed harder on my my knees but the second 10 min jog was easier.  It was much hotter and I was more sweaty.  It’s an easy alternative to jogging outside but I think I still prefer the outdoors.  We’ll see.IMG_8749IMG_8758IMG_8764IMG_8766IMG_8770

On another note…I bought myself a new pair of jeans today at Target and they are a size 16!!!  So far I love them and I love the smaller size!

C25K W6D1…again

I started week 6 again this week. Today was pretty easy.  I felt like I wanted to jog more and walk less.  This was my last workout without the stroller for a bit.  It’s starting to get colder now so I’m going to have to bundle Ryan up a little more but I’m going to get out there.  I am a bit nervous though, we’re supposed to be getting some rain and if I can’t get out to do my training I’ll have to do it on the treadmill in the basement.  I’m a bit nervous for that.  Let’s hope for good weather!

C25K W6D2

Well, my hopes of finishing W6D2 didn’t work out like I hoped while camping.  I woke up with a migraine and talked myself out of it.  On Tuesday was we rode our dirt bikes down the road I started freaking myself out.  What if I ran across a bear or moose?  We’ve seen both up there in the past.  I can jog but there is no WAY I would be able to outrun either of them.  So I waited until we got home and did it early this morning.  It felt good to get back into the swing of things.  But a 3 day break is way too much!  Since I’m 2 days behind I think I’ll do day 3 tomorrow morning.

C25K W6D1

I was able to do my walk/jog this morning right after walking Zack to school and without a stroller!  It felt GREAT!!!  I’m not sure if it was easier because I wasn’t pushing a stroller or since it was a breeze after Friday’s 20 min jog?!  Either way, I’ll take it!

Instructions

Brisk 5 minute warm-up walk, then jog 5 minutes, walk 3 minutes, jog 8 minutes, walk 3 minutes and jog 5 minutes. Finish with a 5 minute cool down.

  • Duration 00:34:00
  • Pace 00:14:43
  • Distance 2.31 mi
  • Calories 456 cal

Tomorrow we’re headed out to go camping until Thur.  I have written down my intervals for W6D2 and my cheat sheet is already in the trailer.  I plan on doing my jog first thing in the morning on the roads that go by our campsite.  Wish me luck!

C25K Week 5: DONE!!!

I DID IT, I DID IT!!!!!!

It was tough, I won’t lie!  I don’t even remember how many times I looked at the clock.  But I remember telling myself at 12 min that I am over half way through.  I looked at it a few more times then I had two min, told myself I could do it.  Then it was less than a minute and I was almost DONE!  It really is amazing what you can do if you are focused and put your mind to it. My legs were pretty crampy afterwards, as well as my tummy.  Thought exercise was supposed to help with cramps?!  Sometimes I hate being a woman!  My legs now feel like jell-o but it feels great!  I am really wishing I had a rest day tomorrow but I’ll tackle that 10k and hopefully be thankful next Friday when I step on the scale.  Here’s to hoping, right?!

I was a sweaty mess and actually saw drips of sweat on my boobs.  The back of my neck was also sweaty, not sure if you can tell in the pics.  So see Sarah, I don’t always look so great when I get back.  Smile

C25K W5D2

OMG, I did it!!!!  I freaking ran for 8 straight minutes, twice!  It is amazing what you can put your mind to.  My TOM has arrived (again, earlier than last month...I don't get it) and when I woke up I was crampy and just wanted to go back to bed (knew that wouldn't happen though).  I honestly was dreading the 8 min jogs but after dropping Z off at school I put my big girl panties on and laced up my shoes.  I HAD to do it.

I talked with a good friend on Monday who just ran a half marathon (that's 13 miles people!) in Chicago.  We talked a lot about running and doing the C25K.  I told her that my hardest part is getting the breathing down to where I feel like I'm completely wiped out.  She suggested slowing my breathing down and blowing out like I'm blowing out a candle, only slowly.  It may sound funny to others while I'm jogging but it honestly helped!!  I wasn't all red faced and wiped out when I got home.  My legs were tight and sore but I felt like her breathing techniques really helped!  Thanks Chrissy!!

Ryan fell asleep again.  Love me a sleeping baby.  (Don't mind the messy living room.  It's a struggle to get everyone dressed and out on time, let alone pick up the hose with a tornado toddler.)  I wasn't nearly as red faced this time.

I'm still nervous as hell for a 20 min run on Friday!

C25K W5D1

Oh.my.goodness, this workout was killer!!!  Each run I looked at my watch at exactly 2.5 min.  But that actually helped me in a way because I knew I was half way done.  My legs ached a lot more today and I felt all three jogs were harder.  I'm not sure if it's because of my activity over the weekend where I didn't get my days of rest or what.  Phew!  I'm glad to have finished this and feel proud too!

Ryan fell asleep again on the way.  Does anyone else's eyes water while working out?

C25K Week 4:DONE!

I did it, I completed week 4!  I somehow was about 30 sec off (faster) than the last two days which kind of threw me off.  The last 5 min jog was rough for some reason and I'm a bit nervous to move on to week 5.  But I know I can do it.

C25K W4 D2

I survived my hair appointment, Ryan got a little restless but nothing too major.

My friend called me this morning and told me she wasn't going to Working Woman Wednesday.  I was relieved because it made my decision for me...I would work out.

I gave the boys an early bath and loaded them up.  I forgot to mention that I mapped out a new (old) route for the rest of my weeks.  The route I normally takes has smallish hills and even though they are small they still seem hard.  So I am going a flat route and it works great.

It is much more enjoyable by myself or just one child.  The fighting gets really old but we made it.  It felt good too!  The second 5 min run wasn't as bad as Monday's. I look forward to Friday already!
